ARTIST STATEMENT

My grandmother, one of my biggest inspirations in life, has always instilled the need for art in me. From a young age, I learned that art forced me to slow down, momentarily distracting me from the natural chaos of life. Deeply resonating with me, I found a new hobby of making wearable art: jewelry. Simultaneously slowing my hectic life down and accessorizing my standard school uniform, my new art addition created a feeling of pure bliss. For the past five years I've been selling my wearable art at various exhibitions throughout the city of Atlanta.

I continued to pursue areas in the arts that would allow my creativity to thrive. I enrolled in photography and painting classes, which further cultivated creative conceptual ideas. For the past three years, I have worked steadily in both art mediums to build a fine art portfolio.

With a love for color and vividness, my paintings and photographs include saturation and contrast with the goal of conveying aspects of playfulness along with a keen observation of my subject matter. With painting, I create intricate still lifes with a whimsical spin of bright colors, utilizing my knowledge of color theory and composition. Within my photography, being skilled in both analog and digital photography aids my process by creating a larger range of images.  I aim to freeze the genuine emotions, connections, and stories that unfold before my lens. While I have studied both landscape and candid photography throughout my studies, I have curated a focus in mixed media, combining both painting and photography.

Working in all three mediums allows me to explore various artistic processes, diversifying my creative endeavors. I look forward to pursuing more in-depth studio arts in college and continuing to develop a fine art portfolio.
